DAY 1 - DEPART BOSTON LOGAN FOR ATHENS
DAY 2 - ARRIVE ATHENS TRANSPORT TO HERODION HOTEL
OVERNIGHT ATHENS -- HERODION HOTEL
DAY 3 - OPTIONAL MORNING WALKING TOUR
Tour will commence in Herodion Hotel lobby. We will walk around the Acropolis starting at 5th Century BC Theatre of Dionysus, the Areopagus, Agora, and through the Plaka and Monastiraki districts. We will also visit Constitution Square, and Parliament Building where we will see the changing of the guard. The tour will end at the Temple of Zeus started in the 5th Century BC but not completed until 2nd Century AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian.

DAY 4 - DEPART ATHENS FOR SANTORINI
THE ISLAND’S NAME WAS CHANGED TO THERA IN THE 19TH CENTURY, BUT LATIN SANTORINI (“THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE”) REMAINS IN COMMON USEAGE. WE WILL VISIT FIRA, OIA, AND AKROTIRI.
SANTORINI IS THE REMAINS OF AN ISLAND FOLLOWING A VIOLENT VOLCANIC ERUPTION CA. 1600 BC THAT CREATED A GIANT CALDERA OR VOLCANIC CRATER.

Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and may be Europe’s oldest city. The site had been settled since the Neolithic period 8000 - 7000 BC and the first palace was built around 2000 BC. At its peak CA 1700 BC the palace and surrounding city had a population over 100,000 and was the religious and political center of Minoan Civilization. For unknown reasons the palace was abandoned between 1350 – 1100 BC during the collapse of Minoan Civilization.

DAY 8 - ALL DAY COACH TOUR TO PHAISTOS
Phaistos is a Bronze Age archaeological site that was inhabited from 4000 BC. The first palace was built around 2000 BC and Phaistos was the second largest city of Minoan Crete after Knossos. Around 1400 BC the Achaeans/Mycenaeans invaded and destroyed Phaistos and Knossos. Excavations were started before those at Knossos and are not as sophisticated as Evan’s work at Knossos.
