MSA CULTURAL TOURS
Dear Fellow Travelers,
Our period of restful tranquility and staying at home in Massachusetts is quickly merging into our busy travel season. On May 14 we leave for the Azores Tour, our Fellow Travelers on the tour will return home on May 24. We will remain in the Azores where the 16th Annual Mediterranean Studies Association Congress starts on May 29, and we will return to the U.S. after the Congress Post-Tour on June 6. We will have three weeks to catch up on our domestic business before departing for the first of two long Mediterranean cruises on Seabourn. We will also engage in a new experience this fall, a North American East Coast Cruise in October (also on Seabourn) that ends just in time for the MSACT Andalusia Tour departure on October 31.
On the subject of Andalusia, you will find complete information for the tour and for the MSACT tour to Scotland in May 2014 on the MSA Cultural Tours Website: http://msaculturaltours.com/
ANDALUSIA, SPAIN: THE LAND OF YOUR DREAMS
October 31 - November 12, 2013
The Andalusia tour will commence in Granada, and include the great Andalusian cities of Cordoba, Seville, and Malaga. Complete details, registration forms, itinerary, and visual presentation are on the MSACT website. This tour is offered in connection with the UMD Second Half course on Andalusia, Land of Your Dreams that Ben is team teaching with Mariano Merino. While the tour is open to all Fellow Travelers, many of the 38 class participants are registering for the tour, which at this writing is nearly full. So if you are interested in traveling through beautiful and historic Andalusia with us, seeing Mariano do the Flamenco and taste wonderful Spanish Sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, we suggest you register soon, only eight places still available.
SCOTLAND: CASTLES, KILTS, AND THE LOCH NESS MONSTER
April 30 – May 10, 2014
This will be MSACT first venture into the British Isles. We worked on a tour of Shakespeare’s England several years ago but with the British Pound near $2.00 and high hotel prices, it was impossible to offer the tour for under $3000. The British Pound is down a bit and prices in Scotland, while more than in the Mediterranean, are considerably less than in the London, Stratford, and Canterbury area. This is the perfect tour for those who do not like frequent hotel changes. We will stay eight nights at the Four Star Novotel in Edinburgh and only change hotels when we overnight in Inverness on our journey to Stirling Castle and Loch Ness to find Ellie the Monster (please see Ellie’s most recent photograph on our website). Edinburgh is so centrally located to our itinerary that we will do day excursions to Hadrian’s Wall, Holy Island /Lindisfarne, Abbotsford House and Glasgow, and return to our Novotel Edinburgh hotel.

As an aside, we want to mention that November 2014 will be the 10th Anniversary of the first MSA Cultural tour with the South Coast Learning Network, destination Sicily. We are planning something special (of course we do not know what it will be yet) to celebrate that anniversary so stay turned.
Have a great summer and get your Registrations in for Andalusia and/or Scotland. Think about the Flamenco in a Kilt, actually, that may not be a pretty sight.
